  • I, as well as my son’s private-duty nurse, have found Ms. Henderson to be very professional, courteous, and willing to go “above and beyond” to ensure that his monthly respiratory supply orders are not only received in a timely manner, but that they are correct. On numerous occasions, she has contacted me or my son’s nurse to gather more detailed descriptions of supplies needed and/or to determine why a certain supply may have been shipped in error.

Company History

Advanced Home Care was established in 1993 with the merger of Home Care of Central Carolina and Advanced Services. These two organizations began as separate companies in the early 1980s. This merger was in response to the growing number of requests from referral sources for consolidated services. The result of this merger was the creation of one of the largest, most comprehensive and technologically advanced home health care organizations in the country – Advanced Home Care.

The roots of Advanced Services and Home Care of Central Carolina go back to 1983 when Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Wesley Long Community Hospital, and High Point Regional Health System formed a joint venture to address the growing need for home health services in Guilford and surrounding counties in North Carolina. In 1994, Forsyth Memorial Hospital (a member of Novant Health) became a partner in Advanced Services. Then in 1998, Presbyterian Health System (also a member of Novant Health) and Mission St. Joseph’s Health System merged their existing infusion programs into Advanced Services. In 2000, Haywood Regional Medical Center and WestCare Health System merged their home medical equipment (HME) operations into the joint venture.

In the summer of 2003, Advanced Home Care took a significant step in its first purchase of a home medical equipment company through the acquisition of First Health of the Carolinas’ home medical equipment operations, based in Pinehurst, NC. Advanced Home Care accomplished another milestone in December 2004 through the purchase of a Virginia based home care equipment company with the acquisition of Carilion Health System’s home medical equipment operations based in Roanoke, VA. This was Advanced Home Care’s first venture outside the state of North Carolina. Also, in December 2004, Advanced Home Care purchased Craven Regional Medical Supply in New Bern, NC, and began to operate it as a satellite to the organization’s operation in Greenville, NC.

In March of 2005, Advanced Home Care expanded its home health services within North Carolina through the merger of three home health agencies into Home Care of Central Carolina. These home health agencies were Forsyth Memorial Home Care in Winston-Salem, NC and Presbyterian Home Care in Charlotte, NC (Novant Health entities) and Home Care Providers in Burlington, NC (an Alamance Regional Health System entity).

September of 2006 saw additional growth in the home health division of Advanced Home Care, when the organization merged with the home health and infusion business of Pathways Home Care – a Concord, NC based home health and infusion company that was a subsidiary of CMC NorthEast Medical Center – and Gaston Memorial Home Care – a Gastonia, NC based home health and medical equipment supplier that was part of Caromont Health.  Through this merger, both CMC NorthEast Medical Center and Gaston Memorial Hospital became part owners of Advanced Home Care, with representation on the company’s governing body.

The next home health expansion took place in July 2007 when Advanced Home Care merged with the home health, home medical equipment, and home infusion divisions of Wellmont Health System – a not for profit regional health care system based in the Tri-Cities area of Tennessee and Virginia.  This merger added Tennessee as the third state in Advanced Home Care’s service area, joining North Carolina and Virginia.

In October, 2008 the operating companies of Advanced Services, Inc. and Home Care of Central Carolina, Inc. were officially merged into one legal entity, called Advanced Home Care, and that is what the organization is known as today.

The organization’s most recent mergers took place in December 2008 and January 2009. On December 1, 2008, Unified Home Care – a freestanding home health agency, owned by Moses Cone Health System and Morehead Memorial Hospital – that serves the residents of Rockingham County, NC and surrounding areas, merged with Advanced Home Care. Through this merger, Morehead Memorial Hospital in Eden, NC became a member of Advanced Home Care and has representation on the organization’s governing board.

The following month, Rowan Regional Home Health and Rowan Medical Facilities, Inc., both of Salisbury, NC, merged into Advanced Home Care on January 1, 2009. Rowan Regional Home Health was a division of Rowan Regional Medical Center (a part of Novant Health) and provided skilled services to patients in Rowan, Cabarrus, and several other surrounding counties. Rowan Medical Facilities, Inc. was founded in 1984 and offered a full range of medical equipment and supplies to patients in this same area. Both of these mergers will allow Advanced Home Care to provide skilled home health services, home medical equipment, and related supplies to patients in these areas in a more efficient manner.
