Advanced Home Care, the leading provider of home medical services, today announced that Heather Smith, PT, MS, DPT, Orthopedic Program Developer and Educator for Advanced Home Care, has been honored as the 2014 Clinician of the Year by the Visiting Nurses Association of America (VNAA). VNAA is a national health industry association that supports, promotes and advocates for nonprofit home health, hospice and palliative care and health promotion services to ensure quality care within their communities. She received the award April 3, 2014.
The VNAA National Awards recognize outstanding clinicians, teams, board members and administrators who go above and beyond their duties to advance home health and hospice care in their own agencies, community and industry at large. Each year VNAA solicits nominations from its over 160 member agencies and convenes an awards committee who evaluates each nominee in their respective category. For Clinician of the Year, the committee selects someone whose achievements and contributions enrich the lives of their patients and the image of the home healthcare or hospice profession.
Heather Smith was selected for the impact she has on her patients as a therapist and her greater involvement in her community as an educator and advocate for home health. Her philosophy of home care being “reality care” is evident in her innovative and exciting treatment plans that take into account her patients’ limitations and home environments.
Sue Payne, Advanced Home Care’s Vice President of Home Heath, said, “She is an outstanding professional at Advanced Home Care and in the communities she touches. Heather’s ability to empathize with and translate patient need into education creates better outcomes for all patients of Advanced Home Care. We are proud to call her one of our own, Congratulations”.
